Troy has a food reputation problem, and honestly, it’s our fault. We let the office parks define us.

But drive past the strip malls and you will find a ridiculous spread, from the self-serve beer taps and fried avocado at North End Taproom to a lamb butter masala at Detroit Eatery that slaps you into next week. I have eaten my way through this city twice, trying not to spill chili sauce on my shirt at Little Brothers.

The lineup is sorted. Here is exactly where you should point your fork.

KAL's is the spot I keep coming back to when I need a win. The salads are genuinely fresh, and the warm pita wraps everything up like a hug. Ordering is painless, pickup is fast. No fuss. The homemade taste comes at a fair price, which feels rare. And the owners? They welcome you like you just walked into their kitchen. That service makes the whole thing better. I ate, I paid, I smiled. That is the whole review. Go get the pita. You will thank me later.

Worth a stop overall

Alchemi is the surprise I did not see coming. The strip steak? A winner, no question. But the rose drink, with real bloom floating in it, that is what got me. Fresh herbs greet you the second you sit down. The menu shakes itself up with the seasons, so returning never gets boring. Is everything perfect? No. But is it worth a stop? Absolutely. I walked in skeptical, walked out planning my next visit. There is craft here. Actual thought, actual flavor. You can feel the effort in every plate.

Detroit Eatery is wild in the best way. The Lamb Butter Masala slaps with a richness that sticks to memory. But this place moves. Fresh Asian cuisine shines through even the fusion. The decor catches your eye before you even look at a menu. It is a lot. In a good way. Counter service comes fast with a friendly smile. The whole menu is expansive, almost obnoxious, and I am here for it. Explorer types, this place rewards you. I grabbed a table, pointed at things, and went home happy. That is all I want.

North End Taproom makes me feel like I am playing house. The self-serve taps are pure perfection for a man who does not like waiting. I grabbed a pour and settled into a cute little corner like I paid rent. It is kid-friendly, with games everywhere. Some embrace, some ignore. Either way, no shortage of fun. The owners come over, chat, and make you feel seen. The food? Tasty eats. The pours? Endless. I will bring people here I like. That is the highest compliment this one can get.

Mon Jin Lau feels like you stepped into another world. The interior is gorgeous, rich details everywhere. Servers are excellent, all eye contact, all grace. The bar is happening on its own terms. Gelato sits there, tempting you even after the sushi. But the house-made duck sauce is the real flex. It is exceptional. I tried it and paused my meal, mid-bite, just to appreciate. Upscale sushi delivered with a welcoming glow. I left entirely full. My mouse is happy too. This place does not try too hard. And yet it wins.

Great pub food for families
Loaded pepperoni pizza wins
Nashville chicken sandwich is a must
Fried avocado worth returning for
Solid beer in welcoming space

Royal Oak Brewery is exactly what pub food should be. Family friendly, but not packed with screeching children. Loaded pepperoni pizza hides cheese like a vault. Nashville chicken sandwich claims the crown. It lingers, the heat whisper sweetly. But get the fried avocado. I never thought I would root for an avocado in a fryer, but I did. I took it so seriously, at done. Solid beer in a welcoming room. I have been in worse spots with better beer. This place balances comfort and craft fine. Bring people.

Saab Sis Thai handles the heat like a pro. The curries arrive bold, all spice, just right. Mango sticky rice shines as the dessert close. But do not rush it. You will be patient because the kitchen takes its time. That wait, worth it. Every bite tastes like they cared. The whole vibe is friendly, no attitude, just good food. I went for the curry and stayed for the sticky rice. I am a convert. Do not let the pace scare you. Let it cook.

Service that goes above

Charlie's Restaurant makes me believe in breakfast again. Home-cooked warmth shows in every plate. The onion soup, gone in seconds. That is not a review. I just inhaled it. Worth the morning line, yes. And the line forms early. Southern breakfast at this level, every bite perfect. There is a care here. It is the kind of place where service goes above, with a smile that says they want you back. I left full, grateful, and slightly suspicious of how good it all was. Best part? It is real.

Tastes like Carter's Hamburgers
Chili sauce worth an hour
Best post-party sliders
Fast, friendly lunch service

Little Brothers Burgers brings the nostalgia immediately. It tastes like Carter's Hamburgers of old time. That chili sauce alone is worth the hour in line. I am not proud of how fast I ate the sliders. The best post-party meal you can find, they serve. Fast, friendly lunch service, no more. One bite of that burger and I am back in my past. The memory. The sauce. It hurts good. Health? I did not ask. If you want a perfect sloppy, here. Bring a napkin or three.

Terra Kitchen & Cocktails keeps a spot in my rotation. Fresh tuna dishes, beautifully done. Waitstaff, attentive and genuinely personable. The salad presentation is a little theater, and I am the audience. They toss, they talk, and somehow the food tastes better for it. The dining room let me breathe. All space, style. Repeat visits, five, six. All consistent. Every single time. You want a place that does not fail you? Try this one. I have not had a miss. The tuna at the coast, hung time.

Pudge's Place Deli & Café is the family operation dreams are made of. Warmth and smiles at every turn. The chicken tenders meal will feed your inner kid and your outer adult. Whole pieces. Not sad. Then they hit you with Saturday Chinese menu nights. A total curveball, and I love it. Breakfast, lunch, dinner variety. Not many places cover every hour. They do. I walked in for a sam. Left with a plan to return for dinner in July. This kind of care is a secret. Do not tell everyone.

Sy Thai caught me off guard when I walked in. The interior is nicer than I expected. Clearly, a step up. The fried rice has tomato chunks, and it somehow works. The free shrimp chips to start? Yes, please. Vegetarian dishes impress me, and I am an all-meat kind of guy. They win me over. Desserts with coconut, mango, banana. Sweet. Perfect. A stop that felt easy, not a run. I am happy I took it. A whole meal, from chips to mango, without a complaint. That, my friends, is a win.
